Unusual cast iron ship object 6 Years, 11 Months ago
I found this one with my eyes. It was in an old farm dump ravine dump site. It is cast iron (heavy) and had some type of electrical device mounted on the backside. There are remnants of old electrical wire of the type that was cloth wrapped. There are no markings on it that I can find. I don't think it was a clock in that it is so large and there is no center hole or numbering anywhere. It's has me stumped and everyone I show it to. The ship is a Man 'o War as you can see cannons and the markings on the sails are a mixture of international designs. You can see the Moslem crescent, Jewish Star of David, a crown with a French fleur de lis, The English Cross of St. George (I believe), and what looks to be the Japanese Rising Sun.

If anyone has any ideas or knows what it is, add your comments, please.

It certainly is a NEAT piece! What cool detail! And it's in great shape for sitting outside so many years.

You would think it had some sort of light mounted to it. Maybe some kind of a device that made it look like the ship was sailing in the ocean.

Or maybe it was a box that was geared down to show the phases of the moon on a painted canvas in a wheel of some sort attached to the back that would move in to position for the exact phase of the moon.

Or maybe a painted globe or scene that would move to show the different countries depicted on the sails.

A gear box / motor combination could have been mounted behind the ship from the way it looks.

All speculation of course. Any other ideas out there?
